What are the overall aims of the course?
On this course you will learn the history of the Djembe, how to play a traditional West African Djembe song and perform as a soloist making your own rhythms. You will be working as a group and closely with your child/ren to learn and improve.
Family Learning courses are designed to provide parents, grandparents, carers and
their children an opportunity to learn together
What will I learn on the course?
Produce different notes on the Djembe drum.
Play as a soloist and as part of a group.
Play two and 3 different rhythms as a group.
Use strategies at home to improve your child/ren’s learning.
Be more active in support of your child/ren’s learning and development
Are there any entry requirements?
Priority will be given to adults who do not have a Maths AND/OR English GCSE A*-C Grades.
Priority will be given to adults with children with disabilities/additional needs.
No more than two children per adult on courses where children attend.
How will I be taught?
Classroom based (including practical work where applicable)
How will my progress be checked?
Informal assessment in class
Does the course have any features I should be aware of?
You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions, demonstrations, health and safety information relating to you and your child.
What do I need to bring with me to class?
Please wear suitable comfortable clothing, trousers are preferable.
How do I find out if I can get some support for my learning?
Additional support on family learning courses may be provided via a volunteer if appropriate
