What are the overall aims of the course?
In this session we will explore and debate key themes in US politics, including the relationship between the Presidency, Congress and the Supreme Court; and the constitution and its significance for political issues such as race relations and gun control. The role of primaries, caucuses and the Electoral College in US elections will also be explained. Race relations, the significance of Barack Obama, affirmative action, and the growing influence of the Hispanic community in America - now the largest minority group resident in the USA - will also be explored in this session.
This session will include photographs, film footage, and a chance to ask any questions you may have about US politics. As this is an introductory course, no prior knowledge of the subject is required.
