Course Title: Art History Club - LGBTQI Art and Artists (LGBT+ History Month)
Enjoy a stimulating talk on a key period or a key figure in Art History, delivered by one of our Art History specialists in a relaxed classroom environment. This talk is one of a series of History talks we offer at Sutton College on a weekly/fortnightly basis.
Purpose of Course
Part of LGBTQI month, this course will focus on Queer Art exploring the life and work of 5 selected artists.
Simeon Solomon, was a British painter connected with the pre-Raphaelites and whose art greatly represented and expressed homosexual love.
Danish transgender artist Lili Ilse Elvenes (born Einar Wegener) whose story was transposed to film with ‘The Danish Girl’ (2015) and her wife painter Gerda Wegener dedicated their lives to art and each other.
Portrait painter Romaine Brooks, created her very personal visual depictions of sexuality often based on the experiences and people around her.
Annie Leibovitz, famous for her work as a portrait photographer, shared the love of photography with her partner, essayist Susan Sontag.

The course is open to anyone with an interest in Art History. No prior knowledge is required.
