Course Information

What are the overall aims of the course?

The aim of this course is to help students understand manual book-keeping and understand the basic elements of accounting in relation to cash books, petty cash, sales and purchase tax.

What will I learn on the course?

How to complete financial documents such as invoices or credit notes
How to record cash and credit transactions in books of original entry
How to prepare bank reconciliations
How to understand the petty cash imprest system and trial balances

Are there any entry requirements?

Basic numeracy skills
Entry 3 English skills

As this course leads to a qualification, you will be required to attend a course approval interview. This is to ensure the course is suitable for you. You may also be asked to complete a test/tests.

Does the course have any features I should be aware of?

This is a fast paced course, with classes twice a week. If you have commitments outside of college which would make it challenging to study at this pace, please select one of our ‘Steady Pace’ courses which meet once a week.

What do I need to bring with me to class?

Pen, paper, folder and calculator.
