Course Information

What are the overall aims of the course?

Beginner students will be introduced to some of the fundamental approaches and principles of calligraphy.
Returning students will be reminded of those fundamental knowledge and skills, and they will be able to refine and develop their existing skills.
The course will help to develop creativity and will give students the ideas for individual projects. Students will also be encouraged to explore their own styles through the study.

What will I learn on the course?

Introduction to materials
Gain confidence in good letterforms and spacing
Improve on the basic skills of calligraphy
Complete 1 or 2 major projects in a term
Translate your creative ideas into effective designs, using the skills and knowledge already acquired

Are there any entry requirements?

This course is suitable for all who wish to learn beautiful writing or to improve their existing skills and develop creativity.

You will need to buy your own materials and tools such as papers, pens and inks/paints.

What do I need to bring with me to class?

HB pencil and eraser
0.3mm automatic pencil
40cm or longer gridded ruler

Further materials required will be discussed on the first day of the term.
