Title of course Calligraphy – Writing and Design

The course is suitable for those who have some experience of calligraphy and wish to improve their existing skills and develop creativity. However, those who are new to calligraphy are also welcome.

Returning students will work on their own projects. You will need to set a goal for the term with consultation with the tutor. Working on their own projects will enable you to refine your existing skills and explore new skills and ideas. You will complete a couple small pieces or one major piece of work through the course.

New students will study one major script in a term, either Capitals or minuscules (Foundational hand or Italic hand). You will study the letterforms step by step, the structure of the letterforms, family groups, spacing and word exercises and write out the text in various sizes. You will also learn how to choose and use the basic materials to be able to write beautifully.
