What is this course about?

Writing can help both mental and physical wellbeing. It can clarify thoughts and feelings, improve mood and through all these help you manage stress. This course offers the opportunity to bring your creativity out in a safe and supportive environment.

This course is run at Throwley Yard Cinema, Sutton,SM1 4GJ

What will we cover?

In this 10-week course, you will explore different creative writing themes and activities to get closer to your unique writing voice. You will have the option to share and get feedback on your new writing. In term 1, you will learn how to ‘show not tell’ in your writing, using sensory description, figurative language (simile, metaphor, personification, symbolism), dialogue and narrative voice. There will also be an introduction to characterisation and how to begin and structure a short story.

What level is this course & what skills do I need?

Basic written English skills

Suitable for complete beginners and more experienced writers.

Additional information

Due to the age of the museum there are low door frames, uneven floors and spiral staircases so care must be taken when moving around the building.

Please bring with you a pen and paper (laptop / tablet if preferred)

As this is a subsidised course you will be required to complete mandatory, audited documentation which your tutor will support you with.
