Title of course DIY Home Improvements

You will learn how to use a range of techniques and small hand and power tools to achieve a multitude of fixings, repairs, maintenance and decorating jobs around the home.

Purpose of Course

This course will give you the basic skills and key techniques in order to understand and rectify small DIY jobs around the home. Among them you will learn how to:

Use a hand saw to cut wood.

Use screws and fixings to attach items to walls etc.

Work safely with and around electric fittings.

Replace electric sockets.

Replace a 3 pin plug.

Repair and replace taps, radiators and WC’s.

Tile kitchens and bathrooms.

Prepare walls, ceilings and woodwork for decoration.

Paint walls, ceilings and woodwork.

Apply wallpaper to walls

Gain an understanding of domestic plumbing basics including how a toilet cistern works, how to drain a radiator, how to easily clean a blocked or smelly sink and how to isolate a tap and access a washer.

Your tutor will give you more information about the course at your first session. Information regarding what you will need for the next session will be given at the end of each session.

Additional information

Please bring a pen and paper to your class. You will be expected to buy several tools in order to build your own mini DIY kit. Actual costs and items will be advised at the start of the course.
