What is this course about?
Explore and develop your drawing and painting skills on this course suitable for all levels.
Whether you are a beginner taking your first creative steps into the artistic world or you have previous experience, this course will inspire you to further your skills and appreciation of art.
You will engage in various approaches to making pieces of work. Drawing from observation is part of the course, to inform development of visual language and to use this as an integral component of experimenting in other areas such as use of watercolour and mixed/water-based media. Reference to both traditional and contemporary art is also featured.
What will we cover?
This course will help the student to develop ways of working which will allow them to bring their ideas to fruition. Relating to set projects within the course structure, we will look at different ways of drawing such as Tonal, Composition, Linear & Mark-Making.
You will also explore ways of developing different media, or your own choice of media, these include Acrylic, Oil, Watercolour & mixed media such as collage, sometimes printmaking. These can be explored together within a piece or separately. A development of independent thought and progression is encouraged.
- Prospective students should note, while use of watercolour is part of the course, this is not specifically a watercolour course. Beginners wishing to concentrate on watercolour ‘Techniques’ are advised to enrol on one of the watercolour courses available at Sutton College.
