Introductory info

An opportunity to establish knowledge of advanced functions and develop further skills and knowledge. The emphasis will be on using Excel in a business environment using practical examples.

What are the overall aims of the course?

This course will show you how to work with data that is provided, to format content to a more advanced level, to use still more complex formulae and reinforce those already known and appreciate why these work as they do to be confident in their future use.

What will I learn on the course?

Perform advanced formatting and conditional formatting
Appreciate the purpose of Lookups
Use more complex functions and formulae
Data validation, duplicates, data import and linking spreadsheets
Advanced charts including Gantt
Name and edit data and work with large quantities of data using Pivot Tables including Charts and Slicers

Are there any entry requirements?

To benefit from this course participants must have a good knowledge of the topics at Intermediate level of Excel. Also, an understanding of the order of mathematical operations is important but will be covered.

Do I need to attend a course approval interview/assessment before I can join this course?

NO but the note above is very important - this is a challenging level which requires intermediate learning to be instilled.

How will I be taught?

Classroom based practical work.
Students are encouraged to provide examples of challenges when working with Excel. These may be included in the course where appropriate.

How will my progress be checked?

Informal assessment in class

Does the course have any features I should be aware of?

As a computer based course a good knowledge of the computer is a paramount. The progress of the whole class can be hindered without this knowledge.

What do I need to bring with me to class?

A notepad and pen would be useful to make additional notesin addition to those provided. A memory stick would be useful to take away your work for further practice. Email address is important.
