What is this course about?
,
Working with fabric and textiles is an incredibly rewarding experience.
,
This course suits anyone who already has some sewing experience and would like to design and make a garment from start to finish within a short period of time.
,
You will make that garment you have imagined for a long time but not had the time or found the right pattern, or even started but not finished. This short course will pull a range of skills together so you can create something fantastic within the allocated time scale. You will learn how to cost, price, market and monetise your skills. This will open the door for you to progress into further learning for a career in garment alterations or fashion design.

Learn to adapt a pattern to your own design and measurements. A dress, skirt, trouser, blouse or shirt.

What will we cover?

Learners will have the opportunity to learn and explore new skills and techniques in a friendly learning environment.

You will need to complete a portfolio of work to submit for certification, as well as complete practical skills as part of homework, to include correctly costing your garments, set prices,market, promote and sell your items.

By completing enrolment you are agreeing that you wish to understand how to monetise your craft.

You will:

- Be able to work safely and effectively using tools, equipment and materials.
- Understand the characteristics of materials required to make a garment.
- Be able to plan, prepare and sample materials for your garment.
- Be able to construct your garment.

What level is this course & what skills do I need?
,
This course is for those who have some previous knowledge and wish to extend their skills in this area of work. Must be able to use a sewing machine and have completed sewing projects before.

No specific prior knowledge or qualifications are required.
,
Learners must demonstrate a basic level of literacy and numeracy.
,
The ability to read and understand written tasks and carry out basic costing calculations are also necessary.

To be considered for a place on this course, you are required to complete an online course Assessment to ensure this course is suitable for you.

Courses at Level 2 or below may be free if you are in work, live in a London Borough and earn under £27,007.50 or are in receipt of a means tested benefit and looking for work.

First lesson - bring along images of a garment you would like to make and some fabric samples. Do not buy pattern or fabric, you can buy them after the first lesson when you have discussed your ideas with your tutor.
