This course will be delivered online. Details of how to access the first session will be sent to you via email within 24 hours of the course start date. An induction on your course will be provided for all learners and you will be supported every step of the way.

This short course is ideal for absolute beginners, as well as more experienced dance students who’d like to revisit the fundamentals of Flamenco dance including posture, footwork, arm & wrist moves, markings and turns. A different piece of flamenco music will be used each week for you to learn about the exotic and multicultural origins of Flamenco. This online course will serve as a perfect introduction to our on-site course starting in January 2022.

Purpose of Course 

During the Flamenco Dancing course you will learn how to:

Dance the fundamental steps of Flamenco Dancing e.g. basic footwork and coordination.

Combine basic Flamenco steps into short combinations.

Perform these combinations with added complexity, if you have previous flamenco dance experience.

Develop coordination, fitness and physical presence.

Describe the multicultural origins of Flamenco.

Recognise and use some of the Spanish words and phrases used in Flamenco.

This is a physically active course but the class is flexible to allow students to work at their own pace and level.

To get the most from the course, you need to be able to follow spoken instructions and understand the number concepts of rhythms and recognise the differences between different rhythms.

Your tutor will give you more information about the course at your first session.

What level is this course & what skills do I need?

The Flamenco Dancing course is perfect for beginners as well as for those with some knowledge and experience of Flamenco Dancing. The class will consist of a mixed group, with some students wishing to embark on studying this new discipline for the very first time, whilst others may be returning to this course to continue with their development.

Due to the nature of the style of course taught, the ability to understand verbal instructions and follow demonstrations is required.

Is a course approval interview/assessment required?

No

Additional information

Please ensure you have a bottle of water with a secure lid with you.

Please wear shoes or boots with a small strong heel – no stilettos, no sandals, no trainers and not barefoot please.

The tutor will offer advice and guidance when the time comes for you - once you have experienced enough of the course - to invest in Flamenco shoes/skirt (women) and boots/waistcoat (men) 

The tutor is very experienced and happy teaching dance online, and can offer guidance as to how to make the most of your home space and how to use Zoom to enhance your online learning experience.

What are the progression opportunities at the end of this course?

Each Flamenco Dancing course will focus on different routines / choreography steps to enable variety and to assist in maintaining and challenging the mind and body, both physically and mentally. 

Following completion of the course, it is recommended that continuation occur to further develop and maintain a healthy, active, wellbeing lifestyle where progression levels can be enhanced through movement quality, accuracy, style and pace. 

This course will also prepare the mind and body for a number of alternative exercise course styles, for example, Zumba Gold, Ballet, Contemporary Dance, Move, Stretch, Relax and more.
