Course Information

What are the overall aims of the course?

You will be introduced to a range of basic Floristry techniques for the assembly of various floral designs, including hand tied bouquets, gift wrapping, wiring techniques and a small table arrangement in floral foam.

What will I learn on the course?

You will learn to:

Design and make small table arrangements
Design and make Buttonholes
Design and make hand tied bouquets

Your tutor will give you more information about the course at your first session.

Are there any entry requirements?

This is a basic introductory course to flower arranging and floristry and all are welcome, no previous experience required.
Ability to understand verbal instructions and follow demonstrations is required.

Do I need to attend a course approval interview/assessment before I can join this course?

No

How will I be taught?

Classroom based (including practical work where applicable)
Practical class work, following initial tutor demonstration, explanation, instruction and discussion.
General class guidance is given by the tutor with some one-to-one guidance where appropriate.
This is a 1 day course so there is no requirement for work outside the class.
Handouts and other materials are available from the tutor or online.

How will my progress be checked?

Informal assessment in class
Tutor observation
Continuous informal assessment methods are used by the tutor to monitor students’ progress and involve observation, question and answer and discussion activities.
Students are also encouraged to keep a personal portfolio of floral designs made in class

Does the course have any features I should be aware of?

You are required to purchase your own flowers/foliage to make the floral items. Please see the list below.
Some containers and floral foam may be purchased in class at Wholesale price if required

What do I need to bring with me to class?

Note book and pen, scissors
Flowers/Foliage required are listed at the end of this course description form.
Container to transport items home safely

In the Introduction to Floristry (Summer School) we will be making 3 items:

Cost of flowers and foliage £20 - £25 if supermarket flowers used

A Small hand tied bouquet for presentation or vase arrangement

1 bunch roses, 5 mini gerbera, 3 shamrock chrysanthemums
5 Carnations, 5 stems ruscus foliage and 5 aspidistra leaves
1 Vase (Optional)

A small round posy table arrangement

5 roses, 1 bunch freesia, 1 bunch spray carnations, 1 stem eryngium, 1 lemon or lime
Eucalyptus and ruscus foliage
Several med sized leaves

A Buttonhole

1 rose
3 small ivy leaves

We will be making the hand tied bouquet first so this may be dismantled and the flowers and foliage reused for the other floral items if you wish

Containers, floral foam, gift wrapping materials and wires may be available to purchase in class at wholesale prices
