Course Information

As well as the pleasure and sense of achievement you will experience learning to play music on the guitar, researchers have shown that playing a musical instrument is very good for the brain.

Most activities use only a few areas of the brain at a time while playing a musical instrument, on the other hand, has been shown to set off a symphony of activity all over your brain so you will benefit both physically and mentally from developing your musical skills as well as the achievement and pleasure factor.

What are the overall aims of the course?

The course starts with playing basic chords from given chord charts and developing a few strum patterns. Later we develop the strum patterns and start to read tablature at beginner standard. You will aim at having a pool of songs some chosen by the tutor, some selected by class members that you can practice to improve your playing ability and your technique.

What will I learn on the course?

You will learn how to:

Play Chords: majors and minors
Develop playing techniques
Recognise and replicate basic rhythm and strum patterns
Read from TAB for those who have mastered basic chords
Refine your ear to develop your playing and practice

Your tutor will give you more information about the course at your first session
