What is this course about?
Having a good grade at Maths GCSE can open so many doors for you, both in employment and for Higher Education, and is becoming more and more vital in today’s society. On a Sutton College GCSE Maths course you will receive the tuition and support to help you gain your qualification and move forward in your work and/or studies.
This is a steady pace course and you will be working towards the Foundation Paper where you will be able to achieve a maximum of a Grade 5 GCSE. (Grade 4 and above is equivalent to Level 2 in Maths). You will not sit the Higher Paper.

What level is this course & what skills do I need?
This course is GCSE level. You will need previous attainments in other GCSE subjects as GCSE English Language and/or other relevant qualifications such as Functional Skills Maths (Level 2 only) will be considered.
How do I enrol?
To be considered for a place on this course, you are required to complete an online Skillsbuilder GCSE 9-1 course assessment to ensure this course is suitable for you. Successful applicants should be working toward Grade 3 (9 is the highest grade).
You can make an application by clicking on ‘APPLY’ at the bottom of this page. If you do not already have a Sutton College online account you will need to create one first. On completion of your application you will receive further information via email.

Additional information
(The College cannot fund learners for this course if they have taken Maths GCSE within the last 5 years and obtained a grade A-C/4-9 equivalent).
This is a steady pace course and you will be working towards the Foundation Paper where you will be able to achieve a maximum of a Grade 5 GCSE (the equivalent to Level 2 in Maths). You will not sit the Higher Paper.
You will be required to sit mock exams at Sutton College on Tuesday 27th May 2025, 9.30am (Paper 1) and Tuesday 1st July 2025, 9.30am (Paper 2).
You will sit three final exams, 80 marks each, totalling 240 marks.
- One non-calculator paper (33.3%)
- Two calculator papers
All three papers are 1 ½ hours each.
This is a fully-funded course and ALL students enrolling on this course must take the accreditation and MUST sit all three exams in November 2025.
