NOTE: This course is only open to those who are 19+, live in London and do not already have a GCSE/Level 2 Maths qualification.
If you are someone who struggles with everyday Maths and lacks confidence with numbers, you are not alone. Sutton College is here to help you!
Sutton College are excited to be offering a range of free Maths courses in 2022-23 as part of the 'Multiply' initiative, to help adults who do not have a Maths qualification at Level 2/GCSE improve their numeracy skills and feel more confident about using Maths in their work and everyday life.
What will I learn on this course?
On this course, you will learn a range of numeracy skills that will help you feel more knowledgeable and confident about dealing with situations in your everyday life and in your work role where you have to use numbers.
The course will be delivered at a steady pace and will be tailored to your specific numeracy needs.
The ongoing sessions and support you receive will help you get to the point where you feel ready to join a Level 2 Maths course/GCSE Maths course, or to the point where you are ready to sit an exam.
On this course, you will work on:
whole numbers, fractions, decimals and percentages
common measures, shapes and space
handling information and data
ratios, direct proportion and inverse proportion
compound interest, percentage increases, decreases and discounts including tax and simple budgeting
metric and imperial units of length, weight and capacity using a) a conversion factor and b) a conversion graph
speed and density
perimeters and areas of 2-D shapes including triangles and circles and composite shapes including non-rectangular shapes
volumes and surface areas of 3-D shapes including cylinders
mean, median, mode and range
probability
scatter diagrams and positive and negative correlation
What level is this course & what skills do I need?
The level of this course is working towards Level 2/GCSE (Grades A-C/1-4). You will need an Entry 3/Pre-GCSE understanding of English.
