Are you a musician or music lover or both? Perhaps you have learned to play an instrument and are thinking about crafting your own songs? Or maybe you enjoy singing and would like to take the first steps towards creating your own compositions? Even if you have never done anything other than listen to music but feel you have something to say through song this course is for you.
Purpose of Course
This course will provide a toolkit for those starting out in song writing and those who have taken their first steps. In a friendly and supportive environment you can explore methods for creating simple lyrics, rhythms and melodies which can then be developed into songs, working both individually and as a group, with or without an instrument. You will be encouraged to bring your own ideas for development.

What level is this course & what skills do I need?
This course is for anyone with an interest in song writing. You do not need to be able to read music, play an instrument or to be able to sing. A love of music and storytelling and a willingness to explore the subject is all that is needed.
Is a course approval interview/assessment required?
If you have a small, portable musical instrument please bring it along but this is not a requirement.
You will need a notepad and pen. A pencil and an eraser may be useful.

You can enrol onto one of our Popular Music Appreciation courses. Sutton College also offers Rock and Pop Guitar courses for all levels.
