Chinese New Year!

27 January 2022

Chinese New Year starts from February 1st and 2022 is the Year of the Tiger, symbolising strength, power and prosperity in the Chinese zodiac.

In preparation for Chinese New Year, one of our tutors brought in some beautiful clothes and traditional celebratory items which can be seen in the Starkey Gallery at our Sutton centre.

Many Hong Kongers have been settling in Sutton since the British National Overseas ‘BN(O)’ scheme started in at the beginning of last year. The College is proud to be working with this community in the Borough and we are currently running various conversation and English language classes to help improve confidence and gain skills to integrate into life in the UK.

One of our Pottery students from Hong Kong, Willa, created the fantastic video below to give us a special message and some information on New Year traditions.

Sutton College wishes all our students health and happiness this Chinese New Year!  Gong Hei Fat Choy ! Happy New Year! Gōng xǐ fā cái!

If you have a special tradition/festival that you would like to share, please just get in touch – marketing@suttoncollege.ac.uk
