Floristry Students Get Inspired at Covent Garden Flower Market

16 March 2023

Earlier this month some of the Level 2 City & Guilds floristry students went on a trip to the flower market at Covent Garden.

Students were given the opportunity to put their learning into a ‘real world’ environment, to see the wholesale market first hand and to purchase and understand what is available to them in future careers or employment in the floristry industry.

Tutor, Zoe Duke said ‘We had a fantastic visit to Covent Garden Market on Saturday and students had some great feedback’:

“I had a great time looking around the market today, I saw quite a few new flowers that I didn’t know about! It was also interesting to see the process of buying at a market and how it all works.” – MS

“I really liked the market, my head is spinning from the amount of excellent materials for creativity. It was a little pity that the sale was only wholesale and I could not buy a small number of flowers. But it was a very good experience to explore the variety of materials.” – HB

“Thank you for organising the flower market trip. I found it extremely overwhelming but I loved the experience. I got a chance to ask the sellers questions and they were super helpful.

It’s a great place to network, I got to meet other florists and find out what they specialise in. I loved the selection of flowers and I wrote down some of their names for my reference. Brilliant morning.” – SP

Floristry courses at various levels start throughout the year ranging from one day workshop through to Level 3 qualifications. More details can be found at www.suttoncollege.ac.uk/category/flowers-environment/
