Getting into Woodwork!

17 March 2023

Student Martin Woolley is enrolled on the Woodwork course at Sutton College and his fantastic haul of resources is testament to how much he is enjoying his course.

With a goal of acquiring wood for future projects to use the skills he has learnt, Martin has been on the hunt on sites like Freecycle and SOLO wood recycling in Croydon. He has sourced materials that he will use as potential future projects and he doesn’t waste a thing, using lower quality pieces for practicing and keeping all the dowels, hinges etc too!

Amongst other things he found, this is a bed that Martin sourced from Freecycle and we look forward to seeing what he makes!

Martin said’ The same lady also gave me a load of pine pieces that were part of an Ikea modular system of some sort. I’ve removed and retained all of the screws…. I also extracted a few dowels which I’ve retained. And…. there was a pair of brass hinges that I also retained and will bring to class next week for my box lid!

It is great to see students thinking creatively, being sustainable and resourceful and looking forward to using the skills they have learnt with us.
