Lifelong Learning Week 2020

3 November 2020

This week is Lifelong Learning Week, an annual celebration of the benefits of adult education. There are various activities and events planned by the Festival of Learning to celebrate and showcase Adult Education. To mark this week Sutton College is holding ‘Meet the Manager’ sessions where students are invited to join online sessions to ask any potential questions they may have regarding their course, their learning journey, Covid-19 precautions or College life in general.

We asked local MP Elliot Colburn for his thoughts on the value of Lifelong Learning and he said:

“In our changing economy, it is more important than ever that adults are able to reskill themselves throughout their career.

Lifelong learning and adult education can unlock jobs and employment opportunities that might not otherwise have been available, and I am encouraged by the Government’s focused approach.

Our new Lifetime Skills Guarantee will give adults the chance to take free college courses that are valued by employers, and flexible loans will allow courses to be taken in segments – boosting opportunities to retrain.

I warmly welcome these new proposals, and pay tribute to the fantastic work being done by Sutton College and others to implement them as they are brought forward, helping many more people develop themselves.”
