Lunar New Year Event 2024
On Saturday 10th February, the College took part in a huge event to celebrate Lunar New Year 2024. Hundreds of visitors came to Sutton Library to watch performances, browse stalls and to take part in activities to celebrate the incoming year of the dragon.
College Governor, Richard Choi was one of the organisers and hosted the event with performances including a lion dance, children’s choir and traditional music. The group that performed the beautifully elaborate lion dance had been to 10 Downing Street to perform earlier that week and everyone in the audience was treated to a colourful, celebratory display.
Sutton College ceramics tutor Yellon Huang ran a fantastic and very popular clay activity, assisted by 2 volunteers from the classes. Visitors could make clay dragons, miniature traditional money bags, oranges, believed to bring luck and wealth and lots more.
A huge well done to all the organisers and volunteers who made this event so successful again in its third year and we look forward to being part of the event next year too.
