New Free Maths Courses at Sutton College!

Sutton College are excited to be offering a range of free Maths courses in 2022-23 as part of the ‘Multiply’ initiative, to help adults who do not have a Maths qualification at Level 2/GCSE improve their numeracy skills and feel more confident about using Maths in their work and everyday life.

The Department for Education recently released figures which stated that 17 million adults in England (half of the working-age population) have everyday maths skills roughly at the level you would expect of a primary school child. This compares poorly internationally and is behind countries such as Japan, Germany and Canada. The UK Government has committed that the first priority of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund should be used for ‘Multiple’ courses to help close that gap.

We will have various courses starting in September 2022 to help develop adults’ numeracy skills and move them closer towards achieving a Level 2/GCSE in Maths. Courses will take place at various times, daytime and evening, onsite and online, and will be at a pace that suits different abilities.

There will be courses to help adults with Functional Skills Maths, looking at the situations in our everyday life when we need numeracy skills to get by. There will also be courses on specific Maths topics, such as algebra, percentages and fractions. These courses are great for people who may want to achieve a GCSE in Maths but feel unsure in these key areas.

We will also be delivering dedicated Maths courses for NHS staff, to help them get the skills and knowledge they need to support their job roles and further their careers.

If it is support with figuring out household bills, mortgage repayments and general household budgeting, we have courses to help with that too.

There will also be Multiply Maths courses for ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) learners, to help them be more confident about using Maths and to help them be ready to pass an exam.
