8 May 2013

Three SCOLA students have been recognised at this year’s Adult Learners’ Week awards. Adult Learners’ Week, 18 – 24 May 2013, is the largest annual celebration of adult learning in the UK.

Angela Hanken, from Sutton, won the NIACE London Senior Learner Award. Angela has overcome her anxieties and has attended a variety of classes at the College, achieving various qualifications in subjects such as Russian, Art & Design and Photography.

“The art classes at SCOLA have changed my life in that I am no longer depressed, but notice more than ever the beauty of all the ordinary things around us,” said Angela.

Sam Keelan received the OCN London Highly Commended Award and Lynn Scarth received a Certificate of Achievement for her commitment to learning.

Principal Saboohi Famili said ‘We are so proud of our learners here at SCOLA and are, once again, delighted to have nationally recognised winners in our midst’.

To celebrate Adult Learner’s Week, SCOLA are offering an exciting range of free taster courses including watercolour, computing and Egyptology.

These free courses will run throughout the week commencing Monday 20th May and include various exercise classes like Tai chi, Step aerobics and language tasters in French and Spanish.  Places can be booked by contacting the SCOLA enrolment centre on 020 8770 5566 or for more information see suttoncollege.ac.uk.
