Message from the Principal

For over 50 years, Sutton College has been a cornerstone of the local community, in the heart of Sutton. Proudly serving as part of the London Borough of Sutton and supported by the Greater London Authority and the Department for Education, we are an adult college dedicated to fostering learning and growth for all individuals.

In our recent Ofsted inspection, we were proud to receive a Good rating, recognising the progress and achievements of the College and the impact we have on the lives of so many in Sutton.

We champion the idea of lifelong learning and are wholeheartedly committed to offering a supportive and inclusive space for everyone who joins us.

If you are returning to education after time away, considering a change in your professional life, or simply curious to try something new, we recognise that this can sometimes feel like a challenge. We want to assure you that Sutton College is here to provide support throughout your entire learning experience with us.

At Sutton College, our course range is varied, offering practical vocational training designed to boost your career prospects through to courses focused on well-being and leisure. We provide qualifications up to Level 4, as well as fantastic opportunities to explore and nurture your hobbies or even develop your business ideas.

Whether your goal is to enhance your employability, embark on a new career path, upskill professionally, or discover a new hobby or perfect an existing skill, you’ll find something to inspire you.

Background

Sutton College was formed in 1972 when the local council decided to unite adult learning provision in the Borough under one umbrella. The result was the specialist college building in St Nicholas Way with its excellent facilities, together with other venues around the Borough.

Originally named Sutton College of Liberal Arts, the College changed its name to Sutton College of Learning for Adults in 2001 and is one of very few Adult and Community Learning services in the country to have its own purpose-built centre. Now ‘Sutton College’ since June 2015, the College continues to provide approximately 800 courses each year as well as Apprenticeships and Business Training.

Funding & Fees

While still a London Borough of Sutton service, the College receives funding from the Greater London Authority (GLA) and the Department for Education (DfE).

All Colleges are given targets to reach in terms of student numbers, including attracting certain disadvantaged groups of people and income from fees.

Governing Body

Sutton College has a Governing Body, which includes representatives from the local authority, schools, businesses, staff and students.

The College is committed to providing a happy, safe environment in which effective learning can take place and we value all of your comments, suggestions and compliments.
