Step Ahead at Sutton College is a bespoke, free service dedicated to helping London Borough of Sutton residents secure long-term employment and achieve their professional ambitions.
Whether you are entering the workforce for the first time, returning after a break, or looking for a career change, our team provides personalised guidance at every stage of your journey.
Step Ahead offers free support to help you build your confidence, develop skills and move closer to work, training or personal goals. The service offers the Trailblazer ‘Get Britain Working’ programme, providing dedicated one to one support for residents who are currently away from the job market.
How we can help you
Through strong partnerships with local employers and organisations across the area, we can offer a range of opportunities and resources, including:
✔ Job Readiness: Support with CV writing, interview preparation, tailored career guidance and confidence and motivation building.
✔ Opportunities: Job search assistance and application advice.
✔ Skills & Training: Sector-specific training and free courses at Sutton College, apprenticeships and work experience placements.
✔ Exclusive Benefits: Paid work trials and guaranteed interview opportunities.
✔ Signposting: Help accessing employability services and local opportunities
Who We Support
We welcome Sutton residents who are:
- 18 years of age or older.
- Not currently employed or in full-time education.
- From any background or experience level.
Removing Barriers
We believe nothing should stand in the way of your progression. We understand there can often be some practical barriers so, depending on circumstances, may be able to assist with essential costs, such as:
- Travel & lunch expenses.
- Work-appropriate clothing.
- Identification documents required for employment.
Our Mission
We bridge the gap between talent and opportunity. While we help residents find the right career pathways, we also assist local businesses in building a highly skilled, local workforce.

How your data is used
If you take part in the Trailblazer programme, please be advised and assured that your personal information will be:
Used only by the Get Britain Working Trailblazer team to provide tailored support
Shared securely and anonymised with the Mayoral Strategic Authority/Welsh Government and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) for research and evaluation purposes. Identifying data will be securely destroyed.
Handled in line with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and Data Protection Act
