Get ready for a job in the Early Years sector, perhaps working in a pre-school or nursery.

Your work placement, first aid sessions and the skills you will learn make this ideal for those who have completed the Early Years Level 1 Award.
The aim of this qualification is to prepare learners to work with children between birth and five years, with knowledge of children up to seven years. You will be able to work in a Nursery, a Pre-School or a School Nursery or Reception class. You will learn the following on your course:

* Roles and responsibilities of the Early Years Practitioner.

* Health and safety of babies and young children in the early years.

* Equality, diversity and inclusive practice in Early Years.

* Safeguarding, protection and welfare of babies and young children in Early Years Settings.

* Understand how to support children’s development.

* Support care routines for babies and young children.

* Support the planning and delivery of activities, purposeful and educational play opportunities.

* Promote play in Early Years.

* Support the well-being of babies and young children for healthy lifestyles.

* Support babies and young children to be physically active.

* Support the needs of babies and young children with Special Educational Needs.

* Promote positive behaviour in Early Years Settings.

* Assessment task: EYP 12: Promote positive behaviour in Early Years Settings.

* Partnership working in the early years.

* Support the needs of the child in preparing for school. Your tutor will give you more information about the course at your first session, As this is a government-funded course, there is a requirement for some elements of English and maths to be included in the course. Assessment, You will be assessed in your work placement to measure the development of your practical skills. You will also complete internally assessed assignments with practical and theoretical activities focusing on real work situations. Throughout this, skilled tutors who are professional practitioners/educators will support you.

This course also covers an introduction to British Values (learning aim 60333984)
This course is a Level 2.

Learners will need to be working, volunteering or on practical placement to be able to show competence in both knowledge and skills.

1: You will need to have appropriate levels of English skills in order to produce assignments necessary for this course. You must have achieved an English Level 1 qualification or above. You will be asked to provide your certificate during the Course Approval Assessment.

2: A placement is essential to complete the course. Learners will need to have a total of 250 work placement hours throughout the course, or approximately 8 hours per week. If you have found a placement you will need to provide proof of the placement by providing a letter confirming your placement hours from the Childcare setting. You will need a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check for your work-placement. If your placement is unable to fund this you may have to pay for it.

You will be required to attend a Paediatric First Aid course as part of this course. Dates are 06/06/26, 13/06/26 and 20/06/26.

You must attend every session to achieve the NUCO qualification. Newly qualified early years staff must have a full paediatric first aid qualification to be included in the required adult: child ratios in an early years setting.
