This course you learn how to write beautifully with a dip pen as well as design and produce a piece of artwork. The course is suitable for beginners as well as for those who have some experience of calligraphy who wish to improve their existing skills and develop creativity.
This course you learn how to write beautifully with a dip pen as well as design and produce a piece of artwork. The course is suitable for beginners as well as for those who have some experience of calligraphy who wish to improve their existing skills and develop creativity.
New learners will study basic skills step by step. You will study materials, basic minuscule, capitals and layout. At the end of the course you will be able to write a short text with a dip pen.
Returning learners will focus on building further skills. You may refine or study variations of the hand you have studied already or study other scripts. You are encouraged to produce a piece before moving on. If you are an experienced learner, you can work on your projects with consultation with your tutor. Working on your own projects will enable you to refine your existing skills and explore new skills and ideas.
You will complete a piece of work in a term or two.
From complete beginners to intermediate/advanced levels.
Students should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions in English. The course includes simple calculations and measurements. Students also need very basic IT skills to be able to access google classroom.
Additional information
For the first session –
Beginners:
HB Pencil, 0.3mm or 0.5mm automatic pencil, eraser. A folder or bag large enough to carry A4 size handouts.
You will need to buy your own materials such as pens, ink, papers. Further materials required will be discussed in the first session. If you already have any calligraphy materials please bring them along.
Returning learners:
Please bring your usual calligraphy materials and ideas for your next project if possible.
Homework between the sessions would be desirable.
