This course is the ideal way to develop your counselling skills and the preliminary stage of a pathway to becoming a qualified counsellor.
This qualification is intended for candidates who want to become competent in the use of counselling skills to help others – either in a voluntary or an employed situation. It is also for those who want to take the first step in training to be a counsellor – preparing them for the next level of practitioner training.
You will learn the following on the course:
* How to use counselling skills ethically and safely.
* Establish and sustain the boundaries of the helping role.,
* Work empathically as a helper.
* Focus on the helpee’s needs and concerns.
* Use self-awareness in helping work.
* Use a range of counselling skills to facilitate the helping interaction.
* Use feedback and reflection to enhance counselling skills.
* Relate learning to own roles and work settings
This qualification is not suitable for those who are currently in a state of severe emotional difficulty and/or severe psychological confusion.
We need to ensure that all potential candidates are made aware of the nature of the course, and in particular that the course involves experiential elements that will involve some personal disclosure and associated personal developmental activities.
Please be aware that you will be expected to do homework every week.
The writing elements will include a weekly (ongoing) learning journal, weekly peer feedback sheets and assignments. You will have a practical assessment of skills and an external exam.
Please note: Due to the nature of the course, we reserve the right to discuss with learners their continuing suitability, at any point, whilst attending any of our Counselling Courses.
This course also covers an introduction to British Values (learning aim 60333984)

You must have achieved an English Level 1 qualification or above. You will be asked to provide your certificate during the Course Approval Assessment.
