It will help your understanding of different botanical materials, knowing how to condition and maintain fresh plant material and how to use the elements and principles of design to create a harmonious display.

The skills gained will be those required for employment in the floristry industry as well as equipping you to create more complex designs if you are a hobbyist.
ALL PLANT MATERIALS AND CONTAINERS NEEDED ARE INCLUDED IN THE COURSE FEE.
The City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate in Floristry Course has been designed to focus on the skills and training required to work within the Floristry Industry as a new career path, or for those wishing to update and enhance their existing skills.
The course is 1 day per week over the duration of one academic year and you will be required to produce a portfolio of evidence to include your practical work, complete unit assessments, written assignments, sketches, costings and evaluations.
The course will consist of:
- The creative design process for florists to include colour relationships and the elements and principles of design.
- Identification, care and conditioning of fresh botanical materials.
- Costing fresh materials for retail purposes, to include calculating VAT, labour and sundries.
- Plan, prepare, produce and evaluate floral designs to include costings, care, storage, transport and suitability.
During the course there may be the opportunity to attend nearby floristry events, visit flower markets and to create window and internal floristry displays.
This course also covers an introduction to British Values (learning aim 6033398)
This is a Level 2 City & Guilds course.
Though not mandatory, it would be advantageous to have completed the entry level creative craft courses in floral design and Level 1 Floral Design before starting this level 2 course.
Due to the nature of the course content, learners will need a good level of literacy and numeracy skills.
For example, the ability to read and interpret written tasks, complete documents in a legible and understandable format, organise documents clearly and coherently to produce contents with effective use of written grammar and mathematical calculations, by way of a computer, which is why a good level of ICT skills is essential.
There will be 4 - 6 hours of homework set per week on average.
Additional information:
You will need to bring to the first class:- Notebook and pen, Camera and apron (optional), Container to transport floral designs home safely, A large lever arch A4 portfolio file plus an A4 ring binder for handouts and notes.
A4 lined notepaper and dividers and general stationery are essential.
In addition, you may choose to purchase books costing approximately £30. (You are advised not to purchase text-books or equipment until after the course start date).
You will need a floristry tool kit containing the basic tools for floristry.
You have the option of purchasing a competitively priced tool kit through the college.
Further information about this will be given to you once you have enrolled.
Fully funded learners will be provided with a tool kit for the duration of the course.
Any course enrichment opportunities associated with this class will be listed in your Google classroom.
This course also includes the additional qualification - Ascentis Level 1 Certificate in Employability (Learning Aim: 60085010).
This will give you useful skills for the workplace and be a great addition to your CV.
