The VTCT Level 1 Certificate in an Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector is a qualification that has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills.

It will introduce you to the hair and beauty industries and how you should present a professional image in the salon.

This course could be the start of a career in the industry and a stepping stone to future courses.
The aim of this qualification is to prepare learners to work within the Hair and Beauty Industry.

It is designed for anyone who has an interest and enthusiasm who wishes to develop the basic knowledge, skills and competencies to work within a beauty salon at an entry level.

Most units will be agreed once you join the course.

Below are some of the units to choose from:
- Presenting a professional image
- Skin Care
- Nail Art application
- Head massage
- Style hair using hairdressing techniques
- Manicure
- Pedicure
- Facial
- Basic Make-up Application
This course also covers an introduction to British Values (learning aim 6033398)
This course is a Level 1.

You will need to have appropriate levels of English skills in order to produce assignments necessary for this course and the college requires you to have achieved or be working towards an entry level 1 English qualification or above.

A passion for the beauty and or complementary industry and a willingness to learn as well as competent IT skills are needed and you should be well organised and have the ability to work to deadlines.

This course requires home study and research skills.
You must have sufficient time at home that you can set aside to do homework, revision and practise.

You will be expected to work on your classmates to practise and perform your practical treatments and agree to be worked on.

This course is open to both male and female learners.
Additional information:
To practice at home you will need to purchase some items recommended by your tutor. Approximate cost £60-£70.

If you are a fully funded learner these items will be purchased for you. Asuitably recognised student insurance to cover case studies of your practical treatments.
Suitable black clothing to create a uniform to wear in the salon.

Your tutor will recommend where to purchase the items if you choose to buy them, or you can wear any suitable black clothing.
You will need to wear black flat closed in shoes in the salon- this will not be purchased for you.

This course also includes the additional qualification - Ascentis Level 1 Certificate in Employability (Learning Aim: 60085010). This will give you useful skills for the workplace and be a great addition to your CV.

  • Bring accepted ID in the form of either a UK passport or printout of your e-visa showing residency status
  • Bring proof of benefit dated within the last 3 months or most recent payslip /tax return if claiming the concessionary fee
  • Ensure you meet all previous educational requirements to attend this course
  • Bring copies of previous exam certificates
