Sutton College Awards 2026

An evening full of inspiration, stories of success and real evidence of the impact of lifelong learning in Sutton.

This evening, Tim Vine, local comedian and patron of Sutton College, hosted the Achievement Awards, a celebration of the hard work and success of Sutton College learners.

With nearly 120 nominations received, all shortlisted nominees were in attendance and the winner announced at the event, held at Sutton College on St Nicholas Way.

The winners, chosen by a panel including College Governors, received awards and certificates from Chair of Governors Jenny Sims.

College Principal Tom Dillon-Bott said ‘ This inspirational evening is testament to the hard work and dedication of our learners and the stories and journeys that we have heard about truly show the impact of adult learning. ‘

Academic Learner of the year – Lynda Findlay

Reading of poem by a Skills for Life English learner – Lidiia Vista
Special Recognition Award – Karolina Dynowska
Step Ahead Trailblazer of the Year – Louise Powell

The audience included friends and family or all shortlisted nominees, proud tutors who had nominated their learners, representatives from local organisations, Helen Bailey, Chief Executive of Sutton Council and Councillor Barry Lewis, Leader of Sutton Council. The Holiday Inn, Sutton, kindly donated drinks for the evening and the Step Ahead Trailblazer programme, a government-funded initiative aimed at helping economically inactive individuals return to work, contributed towards other costs of the evening.

Employability learners created beautiful floral displays for the evening as part of an event planning workshop and displays of learner jewellery, ceramic, textiles and art work could be viewed.
