Get ready for a job in the Early Years sector, perhaps working in a pre-school or nursery.

The aim of this course is to provide learners with the knowledge and understanding of babies and young children from birth to seven years of age with applied knowledge in the early years, 0–5 years.

Upon successful completion, learners can enter the workforce as a qualified Level 2 Early Years Practitioner or continue to study for a Level 3 Diploma holding Early Years Educator status.
The qualification has 14 mandatory units:

* Roles and responsibilities of the Early Years Practitioner.
* Health and safety of babies and young children in the early years.
* Equality, diversity and inclusive practice in Early Years.
*Safeguarding, protection and welfare of babies and young children in Early Years Settings.
* Understand how to support children’s development.
* Support care routines for babies and young children.
* Support the planning and delivery of activities, purposeful and educational play opportunities.
* Promote play in Early Years.
* Support the well-being of babies and young children for healthy lifestyles.
* Support babies and young children to be physically active.
* Support the needs of babies and young children with Special Educational Needs.
* Promote positive behaviour in Early Years Settings.
* Partnership working in the early years.
* Support the needs of the child in preparing for school.

You are required to produce a portfolio of evidence mapped against a set assessment criteria for knowledge and also the skills acquired during work placement experience.

You will receive ongoing feedback and will be given clear guidance on how to include all the necessary information to meet the unit criteria and improve your work.

Sessions are interactive and as well as information delivered by the course tutor will consist of discussions, group work and presentations.

The course is quite demanding. You must be prepared to study and research at home in order to progress and be able to develop your knowledge and your professionalism.

Your tutor will give you more information about the course in your first session.

Learning Aim: Z0011145 - This course will also include guidance on using Google Classroom as part of your learning experience. You will learn how to access course information, communicate and collaborate with fellow learners, submit assignments, and receive feedback from your tutor.
This is a Level 2 course.

1. You will need to be working at Level 2 in your English skills to access the learning and complete the assessment tasks required.

If you do not achieve Level 2 in your English Skills Builder Assessment you must have a UK English Level 1 qualification or above. You will be asked to provide your certificates during the Course Approval Assessment.

You must also be competent in the use of ICT in order to complete unit assignments and access course information provided online.

2. Learners will need to be working, volunteering or on practical placement in a nursery, pre-school or a school nursery to be able to show competence in both knowledge and skills.
A minimum of 250 placement hours is required throughout the course, or around 8 hours per week. This is a requirement for the achievement of this qualification.

You will need a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check for your work placement. If your placement is unable to fund this you may have to pay for it.

Please note that we are unable to approve you for this course without having received proof of a placement in a childcare setting.

Accepted forms of proof of a placement are a letter or email from your childcare setting confirming your placement.

Please bring a pen, paper and a ring binder folder to your class.

This course is a qualification therefore you must attend all sessions and complete all assessment tasks to the required standard.

  • Bring accepted ID in the form of either a UK passport or printout of your e-visa showing residency status

  • Bring copies of previous exam certificates
