At Sutton College, we offer friendly and supportive English and maths courses for adults aged 19 and over. Courses are available from Entry Level 3 up to GCSE level.
Courses start in September, January and June, so there are many chances to join. We also offer Intensive and Fast Track courses if you want to complete your qualification more quickly.
Free Courses
Our English and maths courses are free for adults aged 19 or over who do not already have a Level 2 qualification in English or maths (GCSE Grade 4/C or above). This is a great chance to improve your skills and gain qualifications without paying course fees.

Which English Course Is Right For You?

1. GCSE English Language
This course may be right for you if:
* you already have good English skills,
* you want to improve your English for work or further study,
* you are interested in how language is used, or you would like to study different texts from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries.

If this sounds like you, GCSE English could be the right course.

2. Functional Skills English
This course may be right for you if:
● English is your first language, or you already have ESOL Level 1,
● you want to improve your everyday English,
● you would like to improve your reading, writing and speaking skills,
or you want to feel more confident using English in daily life and work.
You will practise useful skills such as:
● reading articles and information,
● writing letters and emails,
and speaking clearly and confidently.
Functional Skills English courses are available from Entry Level to Level 2 (GCSE equivalent).
