This course provides a gentle introduction to using computers, helping adult SEND learners develop essential digital skills for everyday life. The focus is on building confidence with technology, supporting independence, and making tasks such as communication, online safety, and everyday digital interactions easier. The course is delivered in a supportive, step-by-step approach with plenty of practical exercises to encourage hands-on learning.
Learners will explore a range of topics related to computers and digital life skills, including:
Basic Computer Skills
Learners will develop foundational skills such as turning devices on and off, using a mouse and keyboard, and navigating operating systems.
Word Processing & Document Creation
Learners will practise creating, formatting, and saving documents using word processing software.
Spreadsheets & Data Handling
Learners will explore simple calculations, tables, and data organisation using spreadsheet tools.
Internet & Online Safety
Learners will learn to browse safely, use search engines, access information, and understand online privacy and security.
Email & Communication Tools
Learners will practise sending, receiving, and organising emails, and using digital communication platforms.
Practical Life Skills Applications
Learners will apply ICT skills to everyday tasks, such as budgeting, making schedules, and planning activities.
Problem Solving & Troubleshooting
Learners will develop strategies to solve common technical problems and gain confidence in using devices independently.
This is an entry-level course, designed for SEND adult learners with little or no prior experience using computers.
No previous knowledge of computers is required.
The course is fully accessible, with visual aids, simple instructions, and hands-on practice to support different learning styles.
A basic understanding of reading and following instructions will be helpful, but support is available for those who need additional assistance.
