D – Pathway to Independence – Employment & Workplace Preparation – Pathway D (SEND) supports learners with SEND to develop the confidence, knowledge, and practical skills needed to prepare for the workplace.
The course focuses on helping learners understand what is expected in different work environments and how to develop the behaviours and skills needed for employment. Learners will explore teamwork, communication, organisation, and problem solving while building confidence in their ability to contribute in a workplace setting.
Through practical activities and discussions, learners will begin to understand their strengths, interests, and possible future pathways, supporting them to move towards greater independence.

Understanding the Workplace
Learners will explore different types of jobs and workplaces and learn about expectations such as punctuality, teamwork, and following instructions.
Communication at Work
Learners will practise speaking and listening skills used in the workplace, including asking for help, responding to instructions, and working respectfully with others.
Teamwork & Working with Others
Learners will take part in group tasks that encourage cooperation, sharing responsibilities, and supporting others to complete activities.
Identifying Strengths & Interests
Learners will reflect on their personal strengths, interests, and skills to help them understand the types of roles that may suit them.
Basic Job Preparation Skills
Learners will explore simple job preparation activities such as understanding job roles, preparing for interviews, and practising workplace scenarios.
Organisation & Responsibility
Learners will develop skills such as time awareness, task completion, and personal responsibility that support success in employment.
Understanding the Workplace

This course is designed for learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities who want to develop skills that support future employment and independence.
Learners do not need previous work experience. However, basic English and maths skills are required so learners can take part in reading, writing, communication, and practical activities within the course.
Learners should be willing to participate in discussions, group activities, and practical tasks that help develop confidence, communication, and workplace readiness. Staff will provide support to ensure all learners can engage and progress throughout the course.
Learners do not need previous work experience. However, basic English and maths skills are required so learners can take part in reading, writing, communication, and practical activities within the course.
