Cooking Skills – Cooking Around the World – Summer (SEND) introduces learners with SEND to a variety of international dishes and cooking traditions. The course encourages learners to explore different cultures through food while developing practical cooking skills and confidence in the kitchen.
Through hands on cooking activities, learners will prepare simple dishes inspired by different countries. The course supports the development of independence, teamwork, and communication while helping learners build practical life skills that can be used at home or in future learning.
Sessions are designed to be supportive and engaging, allowing learners to enjoy cooking while learning about global foods and flavours.
Learners will explore a variety of cooking skills and international recipes, including:
Exploring Foods from Different Cultures
Learners will learn about foods and dishes from different countries and cultures.
Preparing Simple International Dishes
Learners will follow step by step recipes to prepare a range of simple meals and snacks inspired by global cuisines.
Kitchen Skills & Techniques
Learners will practise basic cooking techniques such as chopping, mixing, assembling ingredients, and cooking simple dishes.
Measuring Ingredients & Following Recipes
Learners will develop confidence in measuring ingredients and following simple recipe instructions.
Kitchen Safety & Hygiene
Learners will learn safe food handling practices and how to maintain a clean and organised workspace.
Teamwork & Sharing Food
Learners will work together to prepare dishes, share ideas, and enjoy tasting the foods they create.
This course is designed for learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities who would benefit from a practical and supportive learning environment.
No previous cooking experience is required. However, basic English and maths skills are recommended so learners can follow simple instructions, measure ingredients, and take part in practical cooking activities.
Learners must inform staff about any allergies prior to the course to ensure safe participation in cooking sessions.
Learners should have an interest in cooking and be willing to participate in practical kitchen sessions. Staff will provide appropriate support to ensure all learners can safely engage in the activities.
