Celebrate the height of the growing season with this vibrant, allotment-focused summer course. Meeting for 2.5 hours a week over 12 weeks, this practical class maximises outdoor learning to help you connect deeply with nature, enjoy fresh air, and boost your physical and mental wellbeing. Tailored for adult learners with beginner or basic knowledge, you will join a supportive community to experience the pure satisfaction of cultivating, harvesting, and tasting your own home-grown produce during the sunniest months of the year.
Timed perfectly for the peak summer season, this hands-on course takes you out into the allotment and covers:

Beginner Vegetable Gardening & Allotment Basics: Learn the day-to-day essentials of managing an outdoor plot, including efficient watering techniques, natural weed control, and organic pest management.

Summer Favourite’s such as tomatoes & cucumbers. Master the specific care required for high-yield summer crops, including pinching out side-shoots, staking, feeding, and successfully harvesting tomatoes and cucumbers.

Herbs for the Senses: Explore how to plant, propagate, and harvest a variety of aromatic summer herbs, focusing on their culinary uses and therapeutic qualities.

Summer Flowers & Pollinators: Cultivate beautiful summer blooms that brighten the plot, serve as excellent companion plants, and provide a rich haven for local wildlife.

Creative Container Growing: Discover how to maximize small spaces by successfully growing a variety of compact vegetables, salads, and flowers in pots, window boxes, and hanging baskets.

Harvesting & Seasonal Celebration: Learn the best techniques for harvesting your crops at their peak, preserving your summer bounty, and celebrating the group's collective hard work.
This course is planned to take place at our allotment in Cheam Village, weather permitting, we will also have some sessions taking place on site at the College.

Please bring a pen, pencil and paper to your class. Ensure you are wearing comfortable and appropriate clothing and footwear for a practical gardening.

You are welcome to bring your own gardening gloves.
