Continue your journey into the therapeutic world of nature with this exciting follow-on course, running from January to April. Designed specifically for adult learners with beginner or basic knowledge, this welcoming class focuses on the renewal of the early spring garden. Discover how working with seeds, nurturing new growth, and planning for the seasons ahead can significantly boost your mental and physical wellbeing. Connect with like-minded peers and experience the mindful joy of coaxing new life from the soil as we prepare for the vibrant spring and summer months.
Spanning the transition from winter to spring, this practical course meets for 2.5 hours a week and covers:
Beginner Seed Sowing & Propagation: Master the basics of raising plants from scratch, learning how to handle delicate seeds, seedlings, and simple propagation techniques.
Windowsill Growing Projects: Explore space-saving, accessible indoor gardening by growing microgreens, herbs, and early crops right on your windowsill.
Planning Vegetable & Flower Beds: Learn how to design your dream layout for the upcoming seasons, choosing the best companion plants and crop rotations for a bountiful harvest and stunning blooms.
Sustainability Activities & Composting: Engage in eco-friendly gardening practices, discovering how to manage your compost efficiently and minimise waste to care for the planet.
Pollinator-Friendly Gardening Ideas: Discover how to attract and support local wildlife by choosing plants that provide vital food and shelter for bees, butterflies, and other essential pollinators.
Preparation for Spring/Summer Planting: Get your hands dirty preparing the soil, warming up your beds, and hardening off young plants so they are perfectly primed for the warm weather ahead.

This course is planned to take place at our allotment in Cheam Village, weather permitting, we will also have some sessions taking place on site at the College.
Please bring a pen, pencil and paper to your class. Ensure you are wearing comfortable and appropriate clothing and footwear for a practical gardening.
You are welcome to bring your own gardening gloves.
Ensure you are wearing warm weather resistant clothing and footwear in the autumn and winter, SPF Sun Protector and sun hat for the warmer weather.
Any course enrichment opportunities associated with this class will be listed in your Google Classroom.
This course is open to all adult learners. It is ideal for beginners, those who completed the autumn term, or anyone with basic knowledge looking to develop their skills, boost their personal wellbeing, and gain the confidence to plan a successful spring and summer garden. No advanced horticultural experience is necessary.
