Whether you are looking to take up woodworking as a hobby, exploring new career options, or simply want to get hands-on and give it a go, this is the course for you. This overview of various tools, techniques and tips will set you up as a great introduction to the world of woodwork and you get to make something along the way!
This course uses the construction of a useful pine toolbox to introduce the following tools, skills and techniques:

Identification, selection and use of appropriate hand tools to measure and mark wood for accurate cutting.

Identification, selection and use of appropriate saws and chisels to create simple neat wood joints.

Preparation and sharpening of a new chisel.

Techniques for creating dowelled joints.

How to make and set up “jigs” to hold work safely when using power tools.

An introduction to and hands-on use of the power tool known as a “Biscuit Jointer”.

An introduction to and hands-on use of the power tool known as a “Router”.

An introduction to and hands-on use of the power tool known as a “Bench Drill”.

An introduction to and hands-on use of the power tool known as a “Band Saw”.

Your tutor will contact you prior to the start of the course with a list of some basic inexpensive items that you will need to assist your making.
This is a basic woodwork course for students of all abilities, no prior experience required.
Additional information
Please bring a pen and paper to your class. You will be expected to buy a couple of inexpensive tools to assist with your making. Actual costs and items will be advised at the start of the course.
