If you have an interest in making your own jewellery, working in silver or want to expand your skills then this is the course for you. Jewellery-making sessions are friendly, supportive, professional and fun, enabling you to gain knowledge, skill and confidence in a relaxed atmosphere.
This course will cover many topics including stone setting, etching, press forming, roller printing, forging, anticlastic raising and design, where you will develop your jewellery making and silversmith techniques through a series of practical projects, including soldering, filing, forming, finishing and polishing. These projects involve the design and making of finished items of jewellery from day one. This course involves the use of hand and mechanical equipment. You will be instructed how to use each piece of equipment safely by your tutor. Cut and form sheet metal and wire. Anneal and solder metal. Forging using hammers. Basic stone setting such as bezel setting. Experiment a range of surface finishes on metal including roll printing, etching, and patination. Design and create a piece of jewellery using skills you have learned. Be aware of and work to the health and safety guidelines
Suitable for beginners, intermediate jewellers, and other craft makers with competent making skills. Additional information Please bring a notebook and pen/pencil, and an apron (optional). Wear adequate footwear, please do not wear open toed shoes or sandals. Copper will be supplied for your first projects, but then you will need to buy your own precious metals such as silver and semi-precious stones etc. Your tutor will instruct you how to do this.
