SEND Job Club Alpha

This weekly Job Club is designed for adult participants with SEND who want to build the skills, confidence and experience needed for employment. Participants attend for 2 hours each week and take part in practical, supportive activities primarily linked to the hospitality sector.

The programme will help participants create and maintain an up to date CV, develop interview skills, practise workplace behaviours and gain practical experience through operating an afternoon coffee lounge. Participants will also be supported to explore and access suitable volunteering opportunities, helping them build confidence, experience and evidence of their skills.

The programme is funded through Get Britain Working Trailblazer Programme funding and is designed to support people towards employment.

Participants will work on a range of practical employability skills, including:
- Creating and updating a professional CV
- Completing job applications and application forms
- Interview preparation, including answering common questions and taking part in mock interviews.
- Communication and customer service skills
- Working as part of a team
- Workplace behaviour, reliability and punctuality
- Confidence, self-advocacy and speaking to employers
- Understanding workplace expectations and professional conduct
- Hospitality skills, including welcoming customers, taking orders and providing good customer service.
- Food and drink service skills appropriate to the coffee lounge
- Basic cash handling and understanding prices and transactions, where appropriate
- Maintaining a clean, safe and welcoming work environment
- Time management, organisation and following instructions
- Problem solving and responding appropriately to workplace situations
- Understanding different jobs within hospitality and other local employment sectors
- Exploring volunteering opportunities and preparing for a volunteering placement
- Identifying individual strengths, skills and areas for development
- Building evidence of employability skills and workplace experience.

This programme is suitable for adult participants with SEND who are interested in developing their employability skills and moving towards employment, volunteering or further learning.

All those participating in this programme must be registered with our in house Employability Service Step Ahead.

No previous qualifications or experience in hospitality are required. Participants should be able to participate in a supportive group setting and be willing to take part in practical activities.

Support and activities can be adapted to individual learning needs, communication styles and levels of independence.

On completion of the Job Club, participants can use the skills, confidence and experience they have developed to take their next steps towards employment.

Possible progression includes:

Applying for suitable paid jobs, particularly entry level hospitality and customer service roles.
Progressing into volunteering opportunities to gain further workplace experience.
Continuing with employability or vocational learning.
Developing further hospitality skills through relevant courses or work experience.
Working with employment support services or other appropriate organisations to continue their journey into employment.

Participants will be encouraged to identify an individual next step that reflects their interests, strengths and employment goals.
