Take the next steps to becoming a qualified counsellor.
This course will prepare you for work experience as a trainee counsellor and is a prerequisite for the CPCAB Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, the ideal career-training pathway to becoming a qualified counsellor.
This qualification is intended for candidates who want to take the next step in training to become a counsellor (having already acquired counselling skills at L2) and learn more about counselling theory. It helps students grasp the place for principles in the counselling process and within the counselling working environment.
On this course you will learn how to:
Prepare to work within an ethical framework for counselling
Understand the counselling relationship
Understand difference and diversity issues to develop empathic understanding
Work within a user-centred approach to counselling
Use counselling theory to develop self- awareness in counselling practice
Understand theories of counselling and mental health
Use feedback, reflection and supervision to support counselling studies
As this is a government-funded course, there is a requirement for some elements of English and maths to be included in the course.
Important note: This course is unsuitable for learners currently in a state of severe emotional difficulty and/or severe psychological confusion, due to the experiential elements that will involve some personal disclosure and associated personal developmental activities.
Throughout your studies continual Formative and Developmental assessment will take place. At the end of the course your Summative assessment will be by submission of a portfolio.
Portfolio: a portfolio of work that covers all the learning outcomes of the qualification. Amongst other pieces, this will include:
Weekly reflective journals
A group project
A self-reflective essay
Completed worksheets
Record of feedback from assessed skills role-plays
Evidence of wider reading
Please note: Due to the nature of the course, we reserve the right to discuss with learners their continuing suitability, at any point, whilst attending any of our Counselling Courses.
