This course is designed to help aspiring entrepreneurs develop the financial skills and knowledge needed to successfully start, manage, and grow a business. Learners will gain confidence in understanding key financial concepts, interpreting financial information, and making informed business decisions to improve profitability and sustainability.
The course focuses on building essential financial competency for business start-ups. It introduces practical financial tools and techniques that entrepreneurs need to manage business finances effectively. Learners will explore how to read and understand financial statements, prepare and monitor cash flow forecasts, calculate margin and mark-up, and apply pricing strategies to support business growth and profitability.
What will we cover?
During the course you will cover:
* Understanding the purpose and importance of financial management in business
* Reading and interpreting key financial statements:
? Profit and Loss Account
? Cash Flow Statement
? Balance Sheet
* Preparing and using cash flow forecasts
* Identifying income, expenditure, profit, and loss
* Understanding gross profit, net profit, margin, and mark-up
* Calculating pricing structures and pricing strategies
* Exploring break-even concepts and financial planning

Course Outcome: By the end of the course, you will be able to interpret basic financial statements, prepare cash flow forecasts, calculate pricing structures, apply effective pricing strategies, and use financial planning tools to support the successful launch and management of a start-up business.
Who is this aimed at? This course is specifically designed for learners who have successfully completed the Entrepreneur Business Start-Up programme and would like to develop a basic understanding of financial management in business. It provides practical knowledge and skills to help learners confidently manage business finances, understand financial information, and make informed financial decisions.
Skills & Requirements:
* Communication: Basic spoken and written English skills are required to engage in group discussions and begin drafting your plan.
* Numeracy: Basic maths skills are needed to support the introductory budgeting and financial planning sections.
* Organisation: A willingness to organise your thoughts and set clear, actionable goals.
* Qualifications: No prior business experience or qualifications are necessary.

Learners who wish to further develop their knowledge and skills in business finance may progress onto the Association of Accounting Technicians AAT Level 1 Bookkeeping qualification, which provides a strong foundation in bookkeeping principles and financial processes.
