Learner Avi Sharma, wanted to acknowledge and celebrate his mother’s special birthday with a unique, handmade and beautiful gift , created at the College.
Avi, studying calligraphy and jewellery at Sutton College, used his Calligraphy skills to create a personal poem for his mother’s 90th birthday. His mother, in Jammu, India, will be celebrating this week and his sister will be delivering the special gift. Avi’s sister and her husband have flown there from London to celebrate this occasion and the special poem will be read out at the family gathering of 70+ people.
Principal Tom Dillon said ‘ New to Calligraphy, with only a few months of tuition in Copperplate Calligraphy, it is wonderful to see that Avi has created something so beautiful and meaningful that can be kept forever. This project is no doubt an inspiration to others and we are so grateful he shared it with us. ‘

Unwavering and absolute
Your calm voice and gentle smiles
Fresh in my heart despite the miles
So an ode to you on this special day
A heartfelt thanks in my own way
