While all our courses are designed to promote wellbeing and social inclusion we also offer a suite of Mental Wellbeing Courses which includes Singing for Wellbeing. These courses provide more individualised tuition and support with the aim of improving the quality of life for students experiencing mental health issues.
Courses for 21-22 include:
Songwriting – Are you a musician or music lover or both? Perhaps you have learned to play an instrument and are thinking about crafting your own songs? Or maybe you enjoy singing and would like to take the first steps towards creating your own compositions? Even if you have never done anything other than listen to music but feel you have something to say through song this course is for you.
The course will provide a toolkit for those starting out in songwriting and those who have already taken their first steps. In a friendly and supportive environment you can explore methods for creating simple lyrics, rhythms and melodies which can then be developed into songs, working both individually and as a group, with or without an instrument. You will be encouraged to bring your own ideas for development.
Popular Music Appreciation – Are you a music lover wishing to gain a deeper understanding of the diverse musical genres that brighten our lives on a daily basis? What makes these musical styles what they are and what makes them appeal to us?
From reggae, jazz and blues to rock, pop and many other genres – this course will provide an insight into the intrinsic characteristics of different musical styles including their unique rhythms, forms, textures and qualities. Develop your listening and discussion skills in a friendly and supportive environment in the context of this highly enjoyable subject.
