GCSE and AS Level Courses at Sutton College

Sutton College continues to offer a fantastic range of GCSE and qualifications to get people started on the career path of their choice, enable progression at work and also for personal development. Many of these funded courses are free for those eligible too. If you are unemployed or earning less than £25,642.50 per year you may be able to study qualifications up to and including Level 2 for FREE.

GCSE courses are perfect for those who may want to progress onto Higher Education, or who may want to gain the knowledge, skills and qualifications to find work or move forward in their careers. Our courses are also suitable for those who simply have an interest in the subject area and want to learn more!

Sutton College’s courses are delivered by a team of specialist tutors whose role it is to support you every step of the way in your studies and to help you secure the best possible grade. You will work through a one-year, intensive programme of study. 

For those students who want to begin their GCSE English and/or GCSE Maths studies as soon as possible, we have intensive courses starting in August, with exams being sat in November. Alternatively, there are year-long courses starting in the autumn and intensive, ‘Fast Track’ GCSE courses in English Language and Maths, beginning in January.

GCSE English Language

Functional Skills English

English for Speakers of other languages (ESOL)

• Do you already have a good grasp of English but need to improve your knowledge of English to help you with your current job, future job or further studies?

• Do you have a genuine interest in exploring the way language is used?

• Do you have an interest in studying 19th to 21st century texts?

If ‘Yes’, GCSE English would be the right course for you.

• Is your first language English or have you already achieved ESOL Level 1 qualifications?

• Do you need to improve your everyday English?

• Do you want to get better at reading newspaper articles, writing letters/e-mails and speaking more confidently?

If ‘Yes’, Functional Skills English (Entry Level to Level 2/GCSE equivalent) would be the right course for you.

• Are you a non-native English speaker?

• Do you need to improve your English to help you settle into the community and understand the culture?

• Do you want to be able to read, write speak and listen with more confidence?

• Do you want to learn essential language skills to properly communicate in English?

If ‘Yes’, ESOL (Pre-Entry to Level 2) would be the right course for you.

 

GCSE English Language is aimed at those who already have a good grasp of English but may need to improve their knowledge of English to help with current employment, future employment or further studies.  In GCSE English Language you will explore in depth the way language is used and study a fascinating range of texts ranging from 19th Century to the present day.  You will learn how to understand a range of texts and use the knowledge gained from wide reading to extend your own writing.  Our fun and exciting lessons will help you to write more effectively using a wider vocabulary and correct use of grammar, punctuation and spelling.

Our GCSE English Language courses are aimed at those whose first Language is English or those who have already gained an ESOL Level 1 qualification.  If you do not have either of these, we have a wide range of ESOL classes to cater for all needs and further information can be found at www.suttoncollege.ac.uk/esol

Maths GCSE

We recognise that, for some, the thought of studying for a Maths GCSE can be daunting or scary, particularly if you do not have happy memories of studying Maths at school. Your tutor will understand this and will use a range of techniques to make lessons engaging……and fun! On your course, you will acquire knowledge in the use of algebra, graphs, trigonometry, geometry, probability and statistics.
