The Sutton College Art & Craft programme offers a large range of courses for all abilities and we welcome students of all ages. Our Art & Craft Tutors and technicians are highly qualified practitioners & industry specialists providing a high quality teaching and learning experience.

With new courses starting every term, we have the facilities and professional expertise to help you realise your potential and make extraordinary things.
Sutton College Art & Craft Department also boasts excellent facilities with well-equipped Fine Art Studios for Drawing, Painting, Life Studies, Printmaking and Calligraphy. We also have Specialist Workshops for Fashion & Textiles, Jewellery, Stained Glass and Pottery & Ceramics. Our Fashion & Textiles department offers courses to complete qualifications, to make garments from scratch, learn to embroider, quilt, and make lace. Our Pottery & Ceramics studio also has one of the few remaining and highly prized Gas Fired Reduction Kilns in the Southeast.
We have many exciting enrichment opportunities for all students as part of the artistic life of the college and the broader community. From Art History Gallery Visits to exhibiting and selling work at major borough events and public exhibitions. We also support individual artists and arts groups to realise their potential and build their practice through specialised professional practice courses.
While all our courses are designed to promote wellbeing and social inclusion through Art & Craft, we also offer a suite of Mental Wellbeing Courses which include Drawing, Painting & Mixed Media and also Pottery & Ceramics. These courses provide more individualised tuition and support with the aim of improving the quality of life for students experiencing mental health issues.
The Art & Craft department also works closely with secondary schools in the Borough through our Link Life Drawing programme. Link Life Drawing provides high quality and affordable Life Drawing/Figure Study Courses to support year 12 & 13 students as they prepare their portfolios for application to Foundation & Degree Courses.

Drawing & Painting – Beginners/Intermediate
This flexible and enjoyable course is open to everyone-whether you are a beginner keen to explore or have some experience and wish to develop your drawing and painting skills further. You will develop the basic techniques and personal observational principals required to draw & paint, expressively and with confidence. You will explore a variety of drawing media including pencils, charcoal and paint.
Fashion Design Levels 1,2 and 3
Take the first steps to develop a career in Fashion Design, this industry standard suite of courses is the ideal way to support your journey. Each stage of qualification provides expert tuition and guidance in our well-equipped Fashion & Textiles studio.
Glass – Kiln Forming and Chemical Reactions
Discover the magical alchemy that can be achieved when experimenting with fusing together different types of glass as well as the addition of metal and organic inclusions resulting in chemical reactions when fired in a kiln.
Jewellery Manufacturing Techniques
This new Beginners course in Jewellery Manufacturing will introduce you to a range of jewellery techniques and skills. You will gain an understanding of the wide range of manufacturing processes available to jewellers and have the opportunity to produce a silver pendant from start to finish.
