If you are studying a course that has an exam or your course is portfolio based, normally the cost of the exam or exam board registration will be included in the cost of your course. For the few that are not, the cost of the exam will be stated in the course details. Please note that if you need to re-sit an exam, the college will charge a fee for this. Please contact the exams department if this is applicable to you.
To be entered for an exam or to be registered with the exam board, the exams department will give your tutor an exam entry form which you must complete and return to the exams department or your tutor by the closing date stated on the form.
If you have a learning difficulty or a disability or feel that you work slower than others in your class, you may need access arrangements for your assessments and examinations, such as extra time or rest breaks, to complete your work. If this is the case please inform your tutor and s/he will fill in the Student Support Referral form (SSR) for you. You will also need to produce medical evidence for a medical condition/disability or be tested by the College if you have slow processing or a specific learning difficulty like dyslexia.
The exams department is experienced in helping students who may need Access Arrangements for their exams. We rely on you providing information and identifying any problems as soon as possible so arrangements can be made where necessary.
If you wish to know the exam dates before you start your course, please contact the exams department on 020 8405 7011, or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Your tutor should also be able to give you the dates.
Most exams will take place at the Sutton centre. The exams department will always send you a letter to confirm your exam details.
Sutton College is happy to help private candidates to take exams wherever possible. We are registered with AQA, Edexcel Pearson for GCSE and GCE’s and Edexcel Pearson for IGCSE. We are unable to accept private candidates for any qualifications that have Non-Examination Assessments (NEA), (for example science subjects), controlled assessments, practical assessments, coursework or spoken assessments. We also offer City and Guilds Functional Skills Maths. Please note that as we are an Adult Education College we can only accept students that will be aged 16 or above at the time of taking the exam.
Due to the changes in the exam board regulations regarding access arrangements, we are sorry that Sutton College is now unable to consider applications from private candidates who will require extra support in their exams. For example a scribe, reader or additional time.
If you wish to take an exam as a private candidate please complete the enquiry form on the link below. Once you have completed this form we will then send you an application form to apply and pay for your exams within 2 weeks.
