For accredited courses for the 2018/19 academic year you will need to ‘apply’ for the course that you wish to enrol on. You will receive a confirmation email with a link to book onto a course approval session time and date that suits you best.
Applicants who are interested in English Language (ESOL) should book an appointment via the link on the ESOL page.
What is an accredited course?
It is a course which enables you to achieve a certificate from a nationally recognized Examination Board, eg City and Guilds. The courses are assessed in a variety of ways, eg course work, end-of-course examination, or building a portfolio during the course.
Why do we ask you to come into the College?
We hold approval sessions to ensure that students are enrolled on to correct courses and have the skills to manage the courses successfully. It is also an opportunity for you to tell us anything that you would like the tutor or the College to be aware of before the course starts.
When can I come for an approval session?
There are a range of dates and times throughout the year which you can pre-book to suit your availability. The session may take up to an hour, or longer if you are applying for more than one course.
Do I need to do any preparation for the session?
Please read the course details, available on this website, before attending, and ensure you meet any entry requirements.
When you have applied for the course that you wish to enrol on you will receive an email with a link to the Course Approval Form. Please complete the form, answering all the questions. Please use a biro to answer the questions. Please bring the completed form to the session. It will hold up your assessment session if you do not complete the form and bring it with you. Please bring a pen to your course approval session.
It will be helpful to bring details of qualifications which you have previously taken.
What happens at the session?
You will meet a member of our advice or curriculum staff. They will check that you have completed the Course Approval Form. You will also be asked to do a subject specific assessment. They will also advise on suitability of the course and identify other support if required, after you have completed the assessment
How do you allocate places on courses?
Places are offered to applicants on a first-come first-served basis, so early application is recommended.
If I am approved, am I guaranteed a place on the course?
No – once you have been accepted, you must enrol if you want to secure your place.
I am already a Sutton College student this year. Do I still need to attend?
If you are already a Sutton College student on an accredited course, you may not need to attend a course approval session if you are applying for a higher level course in the same subject and so please contact your tutor for more information.
